Email scams are rampant today and it is important to stay vigilant when opening links or documents sent to you.
A couple of things to ask when reading a suspicious email:
- Is the email from someone you know and trust? Even if it seems to be, does their email look correct?
- (TEEMA emails follow the (firstinitial)(lastname)@teemagroup.com convention. If you see something that does not follow this convention, be extra wary! ex. brianantenbring@teemgroup.com would be a fake account!)
- Are there obvious spelling or grammar mistakes in the email?
- Is there undue urgency in the email? (ex "URGENT: Please approve this transaction ASAP)
- Is the email referring to a service you do not subscribe to? (There are lots of scams that involve "updating information" for services like Netflix, Costco Memberships, or Amazon.)
